Sad news

It is with a great deal of sadness that we heard today that John Petrie has died.  He'd been ill for some time and it is some comfort to know that he is no longer suffering.

I've known John only as long as I've been with LotSU (3 years) but from day one I realised he was very special.  He retained his humour all through the illness and was truly a man to be admired and looked up to.  My grandsons (especially Finn) thought he was wonderful - he had time for all of us - and Finn was beneficiary of shared headgear and uke instruction.

Someone described him as 'slightly eccentric'.  If so, that is the sort of 'eccentric' we should all aspire to.  The comments on his facebook page are testament to how much he was loved.
John's sense of fun coloured all our performances and enhanced our practices.  He has been much missed during this last prolonged bout of illness and will be missed in future - especially when we play 'I wanna be like you', which will always be remembered for his 'monkey dance' and the remarkable way in which we managed to continue playing while internally laughing our socks off.
Thanks for being a part of our lives John, we are better off for having met you.

God bless you.
never without a smile
Keith & team LotSU
